Spring Break Recap

I really, really meant to write a lot this last two weeks. I promise. I had the best of intentions. However, my couch and the pile of movies I had sitting on the coffee table to watch were just too tempting. And now here it is, the first day of spring term.
So, how about a quick recap of some of the books that I've read recently? I have been reading a ton of great YA fiction and loving it.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins was one of these YA reads. I have been hearing about this book for months and had pretty high expectations for it. And oh man! It fulfilled them. I could not tear myself away. This book is exciting, different and compelling. Katniss is a lovable, strong character (what a change from Bella!). I have nothing but good things to share about this book and I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel: Catching Fire. Suzanne Collins, you rock my world!

I also finished up the Percy Jackson series with books
3-5, The Titan's Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth and The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan. I enjoyed this series immensely. Even though the intended audience was obviously younger kids, it was a fun distraction from finals. The ending was satisfying and I felt like Riordan's characters and his writing both grew and matured throughout the five books.

I also read Inkheart, the first book in a fantasy trilogy by Cornelia Funke. These books are translated from German, which I find cool because two of my favorite books from childhood, The Neverending Story and The Princess Bride are also German. I really enjoyed this book and I am currently reading the second book in the series, Inkspell. Book lovers will love these books, since there are constant book references.
So these are a few of the books I've read lately. Right now, besides Inkspell, I am also reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and I am about to start Shades of Grey. Now I must go do my first homework of the new term. Ugh. Happy Reading!

I don't usually read YA books, but The Hunger Games has gotten really good reviews. I definitely have that one on my TBR list.
