The Forest of Hands and Teeth-Carrie Ryan
Delacorte, 2009. Pages: 308
I borrowed this from my local library.
I picked up this book because I love zombies. I was not expecting much and I was surprised by how rich the plot of this book really is. The story is about Mary, a teenager that lives in a village surrounded by a fence that keeps out the forest of zombies, or as they call them: "the unconsecrated." The village has an eery feel to it with a religious sisterhood in charge of everything and mandatory marriage enforced in order to grow the village. An outbreak has happened a couple generations earlier and no one knows if anyone still lives beyond the forest.
This book is awesome. Hands down. There is mystery, action, zombies and even a love story. Their are some really great creepy parts in it and the writing is superb.
This is my favorite line in the book: "Every night I drown and every morning I wake up struggling to breathe" (Ryan 146).
I loved this book, and I started the sequel yesterday: The Dead-Tossed Waves.
